Preparedness is a shared
responsibility; it takes a whole community. This year’s National
Preparedness Month focused on turning awareness into action by
encouraging individuals to make an emergency preparedness plan for
their homes, businesses, and community. Moving forward, that shared
responsibility will be the major theme of the Wood/Wirt County LEPC.
As the
effects of natural and man-made disasters become more rapid,
far-reaching, and wide-spread, government at all levels must grapple
with the limitations of its capabilities. The simple reality is that
in small and medium sized disasters, government can expand its reach
and deliver services more efficiently and cost effectively by
partnering with institutions, groups, and individuals already active
in the impacted communities. [More

On July
26 the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Volunteer West
Virginia, the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and
Emergency Management, and the West Virginia Department of Military
Affairs and Public Safety hosted a workshop on whole community
